2/1/26 Meeting Recap

Hello Committee!

We’ve got a lot of great things happening in Cypress Young Life this spring. See below for a recap of our latest meeting. If you have any questions, please reach out at cypressyl@icloud.com.

Spring Updates

  • Club and Campaigners have already begun!
  • New Schedule for Spring 2026: the staff is trying a new schedule this semester.
    • The new schedule will pare down the amount of YL events we have a week. Rather than club every Monday and campaigners every Wednesday, we will only hold YL events on Mondays and switch between club and campaigners. So if host a YL club this week we will host campaigners the next week.
    • This new schedule allows us to go meet kids where they are at more often rather than asking them to come to us 2x/week
  • Congratulation to Seth and Katie Despres and Carter and Alli Storm – they are each expecting a baby in the summer!
  • Check out the calendar to see all the upcoming dates for 2026!

Prayer

  • Our prayer subcommittee created a weekly prayer list that all of our staff and committee can pray collectively for. Click here for the prayer prompts and feel free to print it out and make it a book marker in your Bible to remind yourself to pray for Young Life!

Capernaum

  • We are taking kids to Capernaum Young Life Camp this summer! For many, this is the first time these students will be away from their homes and parents. Please pray for us as we prepare for this trip!
  • We are currently having clubs at Pvolve (a pilates studio across the street from Cy Ranch) as well as hosting campaigners, both on Wednesday nights.
  • Come see a Capernaum Club! Click here for the Capernaum Club Schedule to see the days you can come. Reach out to Philip White or email cypressyl@icloud.com if you are interested.

Leaders:

  • We will provide snacks/treats for our volunteer leaders Wednesday, February 25th from 6:30-7:30 when our leaders come to the office for training. If you are interested in helping, reach out to Suzanne Merecka (713 202-2512).
  • We are hoping to host a dinner night for each club (the staff and volunteers). If you are interested in hosting one of these dinners, reach out to Suzanne Merecka (713 202-2512).
  • We will continue bringing staff lunches on Tuesdays (every other week this semester). If you are interested in providing a lunch, reach out to Suzanne Merecka (713 202-2512).

Summer Camp

  • SharpTop Cove Camp Trip: June 20th-June 28th
    • We currently have 60 signups – be praying with us for more!
    • We have one of three buses paid for. We are looking for sponsors for the other two buses ($14,000 a piece).
  • Carolina Point Capernaum Trip: June 13-June 17th
  • Wilderness Backpacking Trip: July 19-26
    • We are taking 21 on this trip!
  • Scholarships
    • We had a family at banquet donate $15,000 towards camp scholarships. Praise the Lord!
  • Adult Guests
    • You can join us at camp this summer as an adult guest! You will have a lodge full of other adult guests with your own room. This is an excellent opportunity to get to see Young Life camp in action. Click here for more information.
  • Assignments
    • 1st Session (beginning of summer) – Kyle, Brady, and Cooper
    • 2nd Session (middle of summer) – Philip
  • Young Life Academy
    • This is our summer college intern program
    • We are looking for interns – if you know of anyone who would be interested, please reach out to Seth Despres or email cypressyl@icloud.com

Peaches

  • The Young Life Peach Sale is back! This is a fundraising opportunity for camp. Our students can raise money for their trips.
  • Our peaches come from The Peach Truck and are high quality and delicious peaches. This year we are able to sell 25 pound boxes as well as 12 pound half boxes.
  • August 1st will be the pick up day. Anyone who purchases peaches will come to the Young Life office and pick up their order.
  • Help us spread the word about this fundraiser, especially if you know any companies that might want to purchase large amounts as a thank you gift for clients or something of the like.

Golf Tournament

  • Monday, April 20th at Black Horse Golf Club
  • Price: $800 early bird (ends March 15) / $1000 after
  • We are hoping to break $100,000 in revenue and host over 50 teams at this event due to the growth of our area increasing our annual budget
  • This event will be completely underwritten by an anonymous donor as it has been in years past.
  • Sign ups are live for teams and sponsorships. Click here to sign up!
  • We are looking for more sponsors. If you have any ideas, please add them to our google form.
  • We need your help to publicize this event! Click here for a flyer.
  • Raffle
  • We will need volunteers the day of – we will give more details about this when we get closer to the event.

Strategy

  • Metro Model
    • As our area grows, we are looking at restructuring the staff to help the area thrive
    • New Structure Potential
      • Kyle would move to a Metro Director Role
        • We would look into hiring a teacher staff at Cy Fair who could run club. Kyle would continue to lead at Cy Fair but would have more time focus on the health of the area
      • We would also create two associate Area Director positions underneath Kyle
    • This new structure would also allow us to keep a greater percentage of our budget rather than giving it to the Region
    • We would love for you all to join us in praying as we decide what is best for the growth and sustainability of our Young Life ministry in Cypress

Thank you all for your support, prayers, and more for Young Life. If you can pray for you or support your family in any way, please reach out.

In Him,

Cypress Young Life Staff
